Golden Light
I was inspired by the Valley of Desolation near Graaff-Reinet in the Great Karoo at sunset. Having seen the beauty of this magical, millions-of-years-old landscape, I had to express my awe in an oil painting. I was especially drawn to the beautiful golden-orange sunlight in the last hour of the day. Furthermore, I was intrigued by the light catching the different surfaces of these mountains, creating patterns and abstract shapes across the landscape, as well as the purple shadows concealing these forms and becoming deeper and darker as the day came to a close.
